Garmin's line on the device is that, "the nüvi 260W gives consumers the most sought-after navigation features, while eliminating many of the premium add-ons. Customer Reviews Garmin nüvi 260W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)From Garmin

Love my Garmin! My "Factory Refurbished" 260w arrived looking brand new in the factory box with all of the original accessories. After just a few minutes of reviewing the manual, I was up and running. A few weeks later, I took the unit on a business trip to Miami. I'd pre-programmed the addresses of my company offices and it took me right there with no problems. I especially liked the ease of which I could scan for restaurants closest to my current location! The unit is VERY easy to use, very clear, and I couldn't be more pleased.
Great GPS for the price range. We bought this GPS system because we make a lot of trips to San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, and the rest of the Bay Area. It has made it nice for when we just want to get away and not worry about how to get back to the interstate. My wife is not that good with maps or directions, so with it, she is able to go to the city and with the voice speaking out the names of the street, it allows her to get where she needs to be easily.
Great GPS for a great price even though it's a refurb we are totally satisfied with the performance of this GPS, especially since we got such a great deal. the text to speech is spot on.

Editorial Reviews Garmin nüvi 785T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorFrom Garmin

Amazon.com Manufacturer's Review (August 26, 2008)Garmin continues to build up its nüvi 7xx series portable GPS navigators with its nüvi 785T, which adds a number of handy routing and communication features to an already impressive list of specs, including a 4.3-inch widescreen display, text-to-speech capabilities, media player, and FM transmitter for transmitting audio--including directions and MP3 music and audiobooks--from the device to your car radio.

Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.
HotFix Satellite PredicitonGarmin's HotFix capability automatically calculates and stores satellite locations, greatly reducing satellite acquisition time so that you can turn the unit on and get going. With HotFix, your nüvi remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off.
Multi-Destination RoutingThis lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.
Where Am I? Where's My Car?The nüvi 7x5 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?" At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nüvi 7x5s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount.

Customer Reviews Garmin nüvi 785T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorFrom Garmin

Nice GPS. Some Flaws. Recommended I had a C550 and loved it but it got stolen so I had to buy a new GPS. I started with a Nuvi 885T because I was intrigued by the voice activation. The good news is that the voice activation works very, very well. The bad news is that I found the overall operating feel to be slow and choppy, a fact that is mentioned in several other reviews. Also, I had some issues with the unit locking up, so back it went. I've had the 785T now for a couple of days. Here is what I like: * Quick to lock in satellites, even on cold start * Accurate directions * Smooth scrolling * Customizable display * Lane Assist works nicely and I like it. Useful feature. * Junction View works nicely and I like it, but in my opinion it is not nearly as useful as Garmin would lead you to believe. A photo realistic image of upcoming street signs flashes across the screen for about 5-8 seconds, with an indication as to which lane you should be in. * Bluetooth connected with my Blackberry no problem * Ability to send addresses from my computer to the unit wirelessly. I've used it. It works. * Small/lightweight (unlike my old C550) * MSN Direct works well. MSN Traffic seems to work well, although some other reviewers prefer Lifetime Traffic. I think that is a matter of personal preference, and also depends on where you live. I live outside of Washington, DC, so MSN coverage is strong. Here is what I do not like: * Speakers barely loud enough. My C550 had rich, deep, loud sound. The Nuvi 785T, like all the Nuvi's, has shallow, slightly tinny, not quite loud enough, sound. I am really surprised that Garmin has not addressed this, as this is probably the number one complaint that I have, and that I have seen in other reviews. Unlike some other reviews, this wasn't a deal breaker for me, as I find the volume and clarity to be basically acceptable, but just marginally so. * The underpowered speakers make the Bluetooth component less than perfect, but still useable * The distance remaining and arrival time are slightly smaller than my C550, but it is noticeable and slightly irritating (only slightly). I wear reading glasses, so sometimes I have to squint at the screen a bit * I am constantly taking the unit in and out of my car (don't want to have this unit stolen like my last one). Almost every time I have to fiddle with the mount so it clicks in. It has to line up perfectly, or it won't click in, which requires 2 hands and a bit of concentration. Should be easier and more intuitive than that. * Updating the maps was an adventure. I don't believe this was the fault of the unit, but rather Garmin's website. The map updates are a HUGE file (192 mb), and twice it hung at about 180 mb requiring me to start all over. A little frustrating, but again, I don't fault the 785T for this, and eventually I got it all squared away. Overall, I give it 4 stars. Not perfect, several flaws, but overall, I like it and recommend it. By the way, here is a buying tip if you are interested in this unit....keep your eye on it and check the price daily. Amazon changes their prices dramatically from day to day. They do that on all of their products, but I seem to notice it more on GPS units. One day this might be $500, then the next day it might be $350, then the next day it might go back up to $500. My bottom line? Anything under $400 is a buy, and a good value for the Nuvi 785T.
Best Bang for the Buck I checked out the Garmins starting with the 265 & up to this one. I made the decision to buy one that filled my important needs: lane info & the MSN was built in. So far, so good. I've been able to find places on our cross country trip without having to stop & ask where is the nearest....? The Garmin has the answer all the time & the phone numbers. The lane info has also been a saver when it comes to traveling out of our elements. **I can not stress enough that you still need to have a idea of the area you're traveling!!** As my not directionally challenged husband say's, "Garmin wins two & I win ten." About 90% of the time it has you getting off 1 exit before the one you really need. Not sure who's' fault that is. As the saying goes, is it real or is it Memorex. I would buy it again!! It has gotten me home no matter where my husband tries to drop & loose me.
This GPS has locked up on my wife 3 times This GPS has locked up on my wife 3 times now. Last time was yesterday. It still hasn't started working again from the last time. I want a refund.

Integrated FM Traffic Receiver
Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.
In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous — there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.
A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website.

Customer Reviews Garmin nüvi 770 GPS Navigator and Personal Travel AssistantFrom Garmin

Garmin Nuvi Very excellent product. Quick calculation, very nice bluetooth service. When you buy it, make sure you register it in Garmin website because you are granted one free update for either US or Europe Maps. Also, check your device for software updates (Free). Remember, the map update is free for a limited period of time. Don't miss it, or you will lose the free update. I highly recommend this product especially when it has the ability to operate all over the world.
Expanded features, reduced performance over 350 series Larger screen and bluetooth capability are great new features, as is the capacity for both North America and Europe maps for travelers like me, especially given the cumbersome and restrictive nature of Garmin's MapSource map loading software. However, I'm greatly disappointed in the lack of performance (POI search time, satellite aquisition) compared to my Nuvi 350. The bluetooth capability is nice and (usually) works well with my iPhone, but I (and a colleague who also uses a 700 series) find that the 770 sometimes won't detect my blue tooth device, even though the day prior everything worked fine - Discouraging when you come to rely on this device as your hands-free mobile calling device (and a reason you paid this much for it). The speakers are better than the nuvi 350, but both systems (that I have) have problems with the audio shorting out; and this seems to happen shortly after the warranty expires. While not specific to the 770, I'm experiencing even more misrouting with the current NAVTEQ map version, and many POIs locations are anywhere from a block to a mile and a half away from where the map routing indicates - which almost defeats the purpose in urban areas. Frustrating is the way the routing will prompt you to turn off of a road only to route you in a circle back to where you turned off and back on to the original road and in the direction of original travel. It's almost as if there are "virtual map sheets" that are just barely misalligned such that the routing thinks the roads don't actually connect.I bought this when it first came out, and must say it was not worth the price due to the mentioned detractors. However, as of this review, I see Amazon offering it for about 60% less than I paid almost a year ago, which makes this a better buy for the features. Finally I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that not including a case and other nominal accessories (like what what was included in the nuvi 350) is tacky, especially considering that original customers paid around $700 for this thing.
When good (and even great) is not enough The equipment is all it was promissed, but....one only very frustrating thing: The bluethoot does not work. And it is not a software fault, but a hardware problem. Since to send the equipment back to factory (or to send it back to the vendor even when the original packing is not longer available) is, to say the least, troublesome from Buenos Aires, I am driving with a sofisticated, brand new, crippled piece of equipment. Thank you very much. ALBERTO BATTISTA

Imagine yourself in a city you are not familiar with and suddenly, you realize that you are lost. Well, these days, with the latest technologies of global positioning system (GPS), it is not a big deal to know exactly where you are and get accurate direction to your destination.
And, GPS cell phones are a new aid in the direction of using GPS tracking system. The devices, with right software and service package, can indicate your location, provide information about nearby areas and give turn by turn direction to your destination.
The GPS cell phone works with a receiver when it is used inside an automobile. It enables you get driving directions by subscribing to navigation service and installing appropriate software package that is compatible with the phone. You need an integrated GPS cell phone if you want to use it outside the automobile. The add-ons are also available with those sets. People who are on there toes all the time can find the gadget a useful device to track their movement while navigating.
Of late, numerous brands have developed latest models with some of their exclusive features. It should be noted that all the GPS modules are not compatible with all the cell phone models. Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Manufacturer's Description (August 26, 2008)Garmin's nüvi 265T improves upon its 200-series predecessors by adding free real-time traffic updates from Navteq (for the life of the device) as well as Bluetooth connectivity to your cell phone. Other significant improvements in the 2x5 series include a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature. The 265T provides complete maps for North America and the handy Text-to-Speech feature, so you get turn-by-turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet").

The nüvi 2x5 models all sport the slim design that Garmin introduced with the 200-series last year, so they all fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that makes them convenient for navigation by car or foot. All of the models include useful travel tools like a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more.
Integrated Traffic ReceiverSteer clear of traffic with an integrated GTM 20 FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. No subscriptions or additional hardware needed. Just open the box, turn it on, and get instant access to traffic information--the traffic updates are free for the life of the device.
All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.
In most areas, the traffic broadcasts are continuous--there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.

Hands-Free CallingIn more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nüvi to any Bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.

Customer Reviews Garmin nüvi 265T Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorFrom Garmin

Intermittent Re-Booting Reviewed serval web sites and decided on the Garmin Nuvi 265T. I originally was going to purchase the Garmin Nuvi 205, but after review the 265T had BlueTooth and lifetime Traffic updates. After receiving my first Nuvi 265T, the unit would re-boot itself... this occured on a daily occurance and during a 60minute operation would re-boot 5-6 times. I returned the unit and received a second Nuvi265T, out of the box the unit tried to acquire satellites..after 15 minutes of looking for satellites the unit completely locked up. (yes, the unit was plugged in to a DC Power Source that worked). I returned this unit and purchased a Garmin Nuvi 205 (the original item I wanted). The Garmin Nuvi 205 has worked very well, no issues. I did purcase through J&R Electronics and their customer service was excellant and responsive.
We liked our C340 better! After having a Garmin C340 for several years, we've been a little disappointed in the Nuvi265. Directions are more confusing and sometimes downright inaccurate. We just returned from a 3000 mile trip, so we tested it pretty thoroughly and just do not find it as reliable as our C340 had been.
Powerful but handy! The Garmin 265T is my first GPS, but I have used several other GPS units owned by friends. I like my Garmin because it's small but very helpful. It has text-to-speech capability so I can just focus on the road while it tells me which road to take. It has Bluetooth capability and I tried it and it's awesome. I don't regularly use the Bluetooth handsfree capability but I'm sure it'll come in handy when I need it. :)

Garmin's nüvis pack top of the line features into a slim form factor..New to the nüvi 7x5 lineup is Garmin's HotFix satellite prediction (which locates your position quickly and precisely), Lane Assist (which provides lane guidance and junction views when possible), automatic time zone transitioning, and 3D Building views as well as Garmin Connect Photos to help you visually ascertain your position. Additionally, the nüvi 785T includes Bluetooth connectivity to your cell phone and real-time traffic updates via the included GDB 50 traffic receiver with access to enhanced dynamic content from the MSN Direct service.

As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of an integrated high-sensitivity receiver, a slim, pocket-sized design with a gorgeous display, an easy, intuitive interface, and detailed NAVTEQ maps for North America (United States, Canada and Puerto Rico) with more than 6 million name-searchable points of interest. The Garmin nüvi 7x5 line features three other models--check out their spec highlights at the right and click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nüvi GPS navigators.
The bright, 4.3-inch touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70 percent more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
The nüvi 785T comes preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps from Navteq for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.
Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location.

Lane GuidanceWith the new Lane Guidance feature built into the nüvi 7x5 series, you'll never question which lane you should be driving in again. It provides you with a view of what lane you should be in for upcoming turns. And with the 3D Lane Assist Junction View, you'll be able to see a photo-realistic screen that shows you both the road detail as well as the signs as you will see them on the road. The signs that aren't needed for navigation are faded compared to the appropriate lane signage.
Integrated Traffic ReceiverAn integrated receiver allows you to access enhanced dynamic content from the MSN Direct service. Check the weather, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when you travel with your unit. Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send custom to your nüvi.
Check out a full description of MSN Direct content features, or a coverage map for MSN Direct services.
A 3-month subscription to MSN Direct is included with the device. After that, subscription fees are $49.95 per year, or $129.95 for a lifetime subscription.

Customer Reviews Garmin nüvi 785T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorFrom Garmin

Garmin GPS, can't find home without it A really good piece of equipment, it is reliable and easy to use. On the down side the maps are a little old and you have to pay AGAIN to update them. Not cool, Garmin...
Great GPS but a bit quirky I think my experience was a product defect. It is a phenomenal GPS system. Calculates fast and is accurate. However Mine kept restarting on I64 for no apparent reason. I had to stop to get maps to get to my destination.
GPS 785T I like it. Did an update when I got it and it works fine. Graphics are spectacular. Emailed Garmin for replacement battery information. Just send the unit in and Garmin will replace the batteries once it no longer holds a charge. I still give it 3 stars because even though I think this is a good unit, it can still use some improvements in certain areas. Update: After about a month of trouble free navigation, I started having issues with my Garmin today(2-10-2009). My unit started shutting down and rebooting about every 5 minutes for no apparent reason while I'm doing roadway driving. I tried resetting each time to no avail. I am disappointed with Garmin. I have used their GPS since the days of greyscale and upgraded each time they released a new series of street navigating devices. I spent over $500 for this unit. I will now be extremely hesitant on purchasing any future Garmin products. Garmin should have never let this unit leave their warehouse if they knew the 785T still had bug issues. I will look into other realible brands from here on out. Update 2-12-2009: Amazon is the greatest. They replaced my unit without any problems. My first unit went completely dead since my previous post. Hopefully the replacement unit will do better.
